Wednesday, July 9. 2008Hotel Vienna - Whats the best Hotel in Vienna?High Class Hotels in Vienna have a long tradition. At the beginning of the 20th Century all Vienna 5-star Hotels were located around Ringstraße. Until today most of the upper- and highclass Hotels are in the Inner City (old town), at Ringstraße or nearby (f.ex Hilton and Intercontinental at Stadtpark). Here a list of all 5 star Hotels in Vienna:
All hotels are in the first district (postcode 1010), except Hilton Vienna Hotel and Intercontinental Wien - both are in the third district (postcode 1030), but only a few minutes away from the city center. In these hotels you can find everything you need and everything you want - its all about the money. Only a few 4-star hotels are located in the city center, most of them are a little outside in the districts two to nine. The prices in the historical city center are usually much higher than in other districts, so most hotels focus on celebrities, business men and women and upperclass people, where money is not important. If you want to live in the inner city in Vienna for your City Break of for a long term stay a hotel in Vienna should not be your first choice. It is much cheaper to take an apartment - serviced or self-catering. The market for modern apartments at a reasonable price is booming over the last years and every year some new companies start their business. You want to live in the inner city and money is not important - take a hotel in Vienna. If you come to Vienna for a long term stay or you want the best value for your money try an apartment f.ex. City Center Apartment 3 Gruenangergasse starting at 115 euro/night.
Tuesday, July 8. 2008Apartment or Hotel - whats better for your stay in Vienna?Apartment, Hotel, Aparthotel, Boarding House, Bed & Breakfast - that are all possible accomodations for your stay in Vienna. But which one is the right one for you? ApartmentApartments for a city break or holidays in a capital is quite new. About 10 years ago City Breaks grew popular and so the price for a hotel or a boarding house suddenly increased in Vienna. At this point many private flat owners started private apartment rentals for a single or several apartments. These apartments are usually self-catering, but provide a kitchen and all cookware you need. These private apartments can be found all over vienna and especially internet booking helped that small businesses to grow. Plus:
Minus:
AparthotelAn Aparthotel is a special kind of apartment rental where a complete house of apartments is provided. It is kind of a mixture between apartments and a hotel as usually breakfast is provided or is at least an option. There exist a few aparthotels for holiday guests (weekend or up to a week). Most aparthotels provide serviced apartments at a high class level - at a highlevel price. Plus:
Minus:
Bed & BreakfastBed & Breakfast is in the UK and Ireland a very common form of accomodation. In Austria that would be called "Urlaub am Bauernhof", which is set on the landside not in the city center. So a classical bed & breakfast with single/double rooms and breakfast and the family living nearby is not very common in Vienna. Plus:
Minus:
Boarding HouseA boarding house is the bed&breakfast in bigger cities. In German a boarding house is called "Pension". Rooms from 1 - 8 persons are usual and breakfast is always in cluded. Boarding Houses can be found everywhere in Vienna - from the historical city center to the edges in small "Heurigen"-Areas. Plus:
Minus:
HotelBooking a hotel room is the most common way to travel to another city. And that has not changed in the time of internet booking. Especially the 4 and 5 star hotels are booming in Vienna. Every year at least one new highend 5-star hotel is opening. The disadvantage is the gap that is getting every year bigger: the gap between 3-star or less and upper class hotels. The midrange hotel and a reasonable price is usually at least 20 years old. Plus:
Minus:
